As a former Crown Prosecutor for Queensland, Ryan understands how prosecutions are conceived, and how they may be challenged.

Ryan graduated with a dual degree in Laws and Arts from the University of Queensland in 2017, while working at a private firm in Brisbane. He later joined the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Queensland) and was admitted in 2018 to the legal profession. Ryan developed his professional experience across the State, working in Brisbane, Beenleigh, Southport, Rockhampton, and Ipswich, and attended regional circuits.

As a Legal Officer, he assessed the evidence produced in a range of investigations, including domestic, physical, and sexual violence; trafficking and supplying dangerous drugs; complex fraud; and murder.

In 2022, he worked in a specialised role at the ODPP where he appeared and advocated in the Supreme Court on bail applications. He regularly appeared on multiple applications a day, and often, multiple days a week. It was after this experience that Ryan began acting as a Crown Prosecutor for the State of Queensland, with that appointment made permanent in 2023, and commenced acting as a Senior Crown Prosecutor, for Southport and then Brisbane, in 2024.

As a Crown Prosecutor, Ryan signed indictments instituting prosecutions in the higher courts and appeared as Counsel for the Crown in jury trials, pre-trial arguments, and other hearings. He identified vulnerabilities in prosecutions, including irredeemable faults that led to charges being withdrawn or replaced.

Ryan joined Fisher Dore Lawyers in 2025 and is a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee at the University of Southern Queensland.
